Need
Following a huge merger and acquisition that created a global
organisation employing 36,000 people worldwide and operating from
60 different locations the new organisation had to deliver phenomenal
results and fast.
The president recognised that this had to begin with his senior
team and wanted Evolve International’s help to work with
the team to:
• Agree a common set of objectives for the short term
• Get to know and understand each other and build a deep
trust with each other
• Create alignment and cohesion within the team
• Develop the belief in the whole team that they can achieve
the goals that
had been
set over the coming years
As highly experienced business leaders many had previously been
through other coaching/team working programmes so one of our criteria
was to create a different kind of experience that would have a
lasting impact.
In developing the right programme we had to consider the two different
cultures that currently existed within the team and in order to
create an aligned, cohesive team we needed to devise a way to
break these down and rebuild the team as one.
Our approach
We took the team to a remote area in the
North of Scotland for a six day SAS style adventure.
This consisted of a combination of extreme activities, created
to stretch the team at both a mental and physical level and facilitated
workshop sessions to embed the learning and commit to actions.
With the team living together in a small, basic environment with
none of the home comforts they had become accustomed to everyone
was equal.
The extreme activities were all focused on achieving success as
a whole team. For many these were highly challenging and took
them way out of their comfort zones which meant that they achieved
things they never believed possible. It also taught them the importance
of pushing personal boundaries to discover what they were truly
capable of, both as individuals and as a team. The team also learned
a lot about themselves and each other and how they react to stressful
and different situations. The team experienced the benefit that
comes from the support and encouragement of their team members,
along with having a common goal the team achieved high levels
of success.
